On 13th of February 2020, the thematic webinar on ‘Digital Platforms as Tools for Enhancing South-South and Triangular Cooperation Towards the SDGs’ was organized by the Community of Practice on SSC for Children (CoP-SSC4C) – a joint initiative by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC).
Digital platforms can play important roles in South-South and triangular cooperation as tools for strengthening and enhancing South-South knowledge sharing and facilitate collaboration among development practitioners towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Panelists were Mr. Ian Thorpe, Chief, Learning and Knowledge Exchange, UNICEF. Ms. Xiajun Grace Wang, Deputy Director for Programme and Operations, UNOSSC. Ms. Mariana Balboni, Senior Project Officer, IPC-IG. The event was moderated by Ms. Martha Santos, Programme Manager, South-South and triangular Cooperation, UNICEF.
During the webinar, Mr. Ian Thorpe shared how online platforms can offer solutions in gathering documents and resources that capture the experiences and best practices of institutions from the South in a virtual and accessible space. Ms. Xiajun Grace Wang highlighted how the South-South Galaxy utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) to learn about user behaviors and interests to provide the most relevant content, including among the more than 250 examples of solutions, publications, research papers and news. Ms. Mariana Balboni presented on the socialprotection.org platform and its journey from 2015, towards today having more than 4,800 members and 1,300 stakeholders. The platform promotes knowledge-sharing and capacity building through, for example, e-courses and webinars on social protection policies and programmes.
