The United Nations General Assembly has declared 12 September of every year as the UN day for South-South Cooperation.
For the fourth consecutive year, FAO, IFAD and WFP, the Rome-based UN Agencies (RBAs), will hold a virtual joint celebration of the Day on 16 September 2020, from 16.00 to 17.30. The theme for the celebration is “The role of South-South and Triangular Cooperation in the transformation of food systems, in view of COVID-19”.
Hosted this year by IFAD, the event intends to raise awareness on how South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) can support the transformation of food systems for the benefit of rural poor small-scale farmers, while addressing COVID-19–related vulnerabilities and the needs of the people already at risk of being left behind.
The programme will feature high-level speakers from the RBAs, Member States and partner agencies who will share their views and provide concrete examples of initiatives and actions undertaken through SSTC in support of the above.
