About
Debark University is one of among the fourth generation universities which have been establish by Ethiopian government in 2017. The university is proposed to be a center of teaching and research in highland agriculture. The University contributes to the development of agricultural sector and thereby ensure food security and self-sufficiency through;
Debark University is located in Debark Town, North Gondar Zone, at 834km from Addis Ababa. The region is frequently visited by many tourists who come to visit Simien Mountain National Park.
Following its establishment, the university started its teaching activity with 1173 students under four colleges and seventeen departments. Taking into account its location advantage in Ethiopia’s highland area and at the heart of Simien Mountains National Park, which is endowed with numerous species of flora and fauna, including endemic species. Moreover, there are ample cultural heritages in the surrounding area of Debark University that enable the institution to excel in tourism. Debark University aspires, thus to excel in both the field of highland agriculture and of tourism.
Mission
The Mission of Debark University is to accelerate the overall development of the country by producing medium and higher professionals who are equipped with knowledge, skill and attitude; conducting problem solving researches, and through technology transfer, community service and engagement activities.
Vision
Debark University aspires to be one of the top fifteen Universities in Ethiopia by 2032 G.C.
